Not necessarily. Physical Therapists in Texas have partial direct access to provide fitness, wellness, and prevention services. Under this pretext, you and your therapist are able to work on strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, and coordination. If you have a specific injury or pain (say, in your hip, back, shoulder, or neck) that is interfering with your ability to exercise, getting a prescription for physical therapy from your neurologist or primary care physician is recommended. Please call and talk to a therapist if you have any questions about whether or not you need a referral.
No, we are a private-pay provider similar to a personal trainer, chiropractor or massage therapist’s office. By choosing to be an out-of-network provider, we can spend our time and energy on helping our clients improve their quality of life on their terms, not on the insurance company’s terms. Most clinics that accept insurance are required to see 2-4 patients per hour and utilize aids and technicians due to insurance’s low reimbursement rates. This slows your progress and extends the duration of your treatment (from 4 weeks to, say, 6-8 weeks) and ends up costing the consumer more time and money as well.
Also, depending on your situation, you may be eligible for reimbursement through your HSA or FSA. Please talk to your PT to see if this applies to you.
We offer an updated version of the LSVT BIG® program, developed by the same woman (Becky Farley, PT, MS, PhD) called the Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!) program. This program emphasizes large amplitude, high-effort PWR!Moves™ that can be combined and progressed based off the individual’s needs and worked into any exercise program in any setting. We include the PWR!Moves™ booklet for free when you complete the program.
We are a concierge physical therapy service in Austin, Texas. Our therapists come to you and treat you in the comfort of your own home or office. We provide everything you need for a high quality physical therapy experience without the hassle or commitment to traveling to an outpatient therapy clinic.
The research has found, and working with our clients has confirmed, that annually participating in one month-long, high-effort, Parkinson’s-specific therapy program will not only improve balance, endurance, strength, coordination, flexibility and gait mechanics, but the gains made during that month actually carry over for an entire year! We sell 12 session packages in order to provide therapy sessions 3 times per week (at minimum) for 4 weeks so that your program can be as potent and beneficial as possible. Of course, if you are unsure about purchasing an entire package, we do offer single treatment sessions so that you have an opportunity to try our program and make sure it is a good fit for you.
An annual bout of high-effort, Parkinson’s-specific rehabilitation is recommended in order to minimize the negative effects of your symptoms on your independence and functionality. We also encourage you to check in with your physical therapist frequently throughout the year when symptoms change in order to establish a need for more frequent therapy sessions.
